We've all heard about the harmful "free radicals" that steal electrons from compounds in the cells of the human body, contributing to aging. Yes, a small amount of free radicals should be present in the body for protection, and our liver synthesizes them in very small quantities. As a result, when harmful substances enter the body, aggressive free radicals neutralize them. However, when there is an excess of this "weapon," it starts causing harm.

Resveratrol, a substance found in dry red wine, has a heightened effect on neutralizing excess free radicals and anti-aging properties. It activates the production of proteins that positively impact anti-aging mechanisms. Antioxidants found in berries, nuts, vegetables, and fruits are also highly effective.

According to the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) system, which measures the ability to absorb free radicals, berries, particularly blueberries, cranberries, and bilberries, rank the highest. This standard was developed by scientists at the National Institute on Aging in the United States back in the 1990s, and products are still tested using the ORAC method. It is worth noting the Brazilian nut in this regard, as it is a source of one of the most effective antioxidants, selenium, which suppresses all negative oxidative reactions in the body that lead to cell death.

It should be emphasized that our food should bring pleasure, and finding enjoyment in it is one of the secrets to a happy and long life. Therefore, indulging in something very delicious, even if not super healthy, is permissible from time to time. However, such indulgences should be viewed as exceptions rather than the rule.
