Cooking Instructions!
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, dry active yeast, and granulated sugar. Stir gently and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Add salt and bread flour to the bowl. Mix until the dough comes together and forms a ball. You may need to add a little more flour if it's too sticky.
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Punch down the dough to release any air bubbles. Divide it into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
To form bagels, poke a hole in the center of each dough ball and gently stretch the hole to make it larger. Place the shaped bagels onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and add 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar.
Boil the bagels, one or two at a time, for about 1-2 minutes on each side. Remove them from the water using a slotted spoon and place them back on the baking sheet.
If desired, sprinkle the bagels with sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything bagel seasoning.
Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until they turn golden brown and have a slightly crusty exterior.
Allow the bagels to cool on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy!
