In a small bowl, combine all the dry rub ingredients and mix well.
Prepare the grill for indirect heat. Preheat it to medium-high heat (about 350°F/175°C).
Remove any giblets from the chicken and rinse it under cold water. Pat dry with paper towels.
Rub the chicken with olive oil, then generously apply the dry rub on the inside and outside of the chicken, making sure to cover all surfaces.
Open the beer can and take several sips (or pour out about a quarter of it). Place the beer can on a solid surface and lower the chicken cavity over the top, making it stand upright with the can acting as a base.
Place the beer can chicken on the grill over indirect heat, positioning the legs to support the chicken and keep it balanced. Close the grill lid.
Cook the chicken for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) in the thickest part of the thigh, without touching the bone. Baste the chicken with BBQ sauce every 30 minutes during cooking.
Carefully remove the chicken from the grill by grasping the beer can with tongs and lifting it off the grill. Let it rest for 10 minutes before removing the beer can.
Carve the chicken and serve it with additional BBQ sauce on the side. Enjoy your delicious BBQ Beer Can Chicken!
